Leaves: Evergreen, small.
Features: Abundant small orange flowers in spring - tinged red when in bud, clusters of blue-black berries, some spines on the small holly like leaves.
Height: Medium.
Grows in: Sun, shade, normal soil, dry soil, chalky soil, acid soil, sandy soil.
Other details: Suitable for boundary hedges, suitable for planting as screens, medium growth rate.
Hedge spacing: 45cm.
Trimming: Summer.
    Berberis darwinii is a fine small evergreen leaved medium growing shrub with attractive orange flowers and blue-black berries, suitable for hedges, screens or a specimen shrub. It was discovered by Charles Darwin in 1835 on the voyage of The Beagle.
